Extended Prison Sentence But Good Treatment?

On April 27, a Chinese media outlet published new information that former EXO member and top C-pop star Kris Wu is facing a new serious accusation while serving time in prison. In particular, according to a lawyer from Tianjin, China, Kris Wu is now accused of tax evasion involving a staggering sum of 300 million RMB (approximately $42 million USD). Shockingly, his mother is also implicated and may face jail time alongside her son.

The lawyer revealed that Kris Wu has been transferred to Chaoyang Detention Center in Beijing, awaiting trial for the new charges. If convicted, his current 13-year sentence could be extended. This is because under Article 60 of China’s Criminal Law, sentences for multiple convictions are added together before subtracting the time already served.

Meanwhile, according to another news outlet, Kris Wu has been doing relatively well behind bars, reportedly serving as a “floor leader” and receiving slightly better treatment compared to regular inmates. The outlet claims that Kris doesn’t need to take on cleaning shifts, while his meals consist of steamed buns, napa cabbage, and stir-fried eggs with tomatoes. It’s even said that he has even gained 9 kilograms during his time in prison.

Missing Ex-girlfriend and Whistleblower

As Kris Wu braces for another legal battle, netizens noticed a strange development: influencer Du Meizhu, his ex-girlfriend that brought about his downfall, has gone completely silent for over 2 months. She has stopped updating all her social media platforms, fueling countless rumors and speculation.

Meanwhile, back in July 2021, Du Meizhu shook the entire entertainment industry by accusing Kris Wu of getting her drunk and drugging her before assaulting her. She also exposed him for allegedly luring multiple underage girls under the guise of offering them opportunities in the entertainment industry. 

Authorities later confirmed Kris Wu’s criminal acts, stating that between November and December 2020, he r*ped three intoxicated women at his residence, and in July 2018, he organized a “group sex party” involving friends and two other women.

At his final trial, Kris Wu was sentenced to 13 years in prison for rape and group sexual misconduct. After serving his sentence, he will be permanently deported from China. Although he filed an appeal, the court firmly rejected it, stating that the former star’s crimes are too severe. Additionally, Kris Wu was previously fined 83.7 million RMB (over $11 million USD) for tax evasion and hiding personal income.
