Lee Da-in Chooses Husband Lee Seung-gi Over Family — Agrees to Cut Ties with Maternal Side
Lee Seung-gi and Lee Da-in have decided to cut ties with her family, following ongoing controversies surrounding Lee Da-in’s father and trust issues.
On April 29, legal sources revealed that the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office’s Joint Financial and Securities Crime Investigation Division, led by chief prosecutor Ahn Chang-joo, issued an arrest warrant for Mr. Lee, the father-in-law of singer Lee Seung-gi and husband of actress Kyeon Mi-ri, on charges of violating the Capital Markets Act.
The investigation revealed that Mr. Lee was allegedly involved in manipulating the stock prices of QuantaPia, a KOSDAQ-listed company, while promoting its quantum image sensor business. The scheme reportedly involved insider information leaks regarding mergers and acquisitions to artificially inflate stock prices. Nine individuals were previously indicted in connection with the case.
Prior to these developments, Lee Seung-gi had issued a public statement explaining that while his father-in-law had previously received a fine following an appeal in another case, recent similar allegations had led to a new indictment. Lee Seung-gi appeared to refer to Mr. Lee’s involvement in the QuantaPia stock manipulation case.
Mr. Lee also has a prior history, having been indicted for manipulating the stock prices of another KOSDAQ-listed company between 2014 and 2016. Although the Supreme Court overturned a not-guilty ruling last year, the case was sent back to the Seoul High Court for retrial.
Initially, Lee Seung-gi defended his in-laws, asserting that the accusations were unfounded and urging the public to refrain from targeting his family, emphasizing that the issues predated his marriage. However, at a promotional event for the film “Big Family,” Lee Seung-gi’s stance appeared to shift.
He clarified, “Some of my past remarks may have caused misunderstandings, as if I was saying the family was blameless. But the truth is, my in-laws’ issues are separate from my own life. My wife and I have built an independent family apart from them.”
“I waited based on trust among family members, but I can no longer contain my devastation regarding my father-in-law’s misconduct,” he stated. “The trust has been irreparably damaged, and after long discussions, my wife and I decided to end our relationship with her family.”
Lee Seung-gi also expressed deep remorse for his previous misjudgments, “I deeply regret making hasty statements without thoroughly reviewing the situation. I firmly believe that unlawful acts must be properly punished. I sincerely apologize to the victims who suffered due to my premature defense, and to everyone who believed and supported me.”
He pledged to uphold stronger values and to live responsibly for a healthier society.
Since his debut, Lee Seung-gi has been loved for his “perfect son-in-law” image, but his marriage and subsequent controversies surrounding his wife’s family have drawn negative attention.
With the decision to sever ties now made public, attention is focused on whether Lee Seung-gi can regain his earlier popularity and continue his career actively and successfully.
