Lee Min-ho Joins Historical Thriller The Assassins, Signaling Bold New Turn in Career
According to film industry insiders, Lee Min-ho has officially confirmed his appearance in the upcoming movie “The Assassins” (tentative title, directed by Heo Jin-ho) and is currently preparing for filming. The movie is produced by Hive Media Corp, the powerhouse behind the box office sensation 12.12: The Day, and has been described as its spiritual successor.
The Assassins will tackle the controversial and mysterious circumstances surrounding the August 15 assassination incident—an event that shocked South Korea and remains steeped in speculation and conspiracy theories. With such heavy historical subject matter, the film is expected to generate both domestic and international interest.

Lee Min-ho joins an elite cast including Yoo Hae-jin and Park Hae-il, and will play a key role in unraveling the high-stakes narrative. Industry watchers are particularly eager to see how Lee will portray a character embedded in a politically turbulent era, marking a major departure from the romantic and fantasy-heavy roles that defined his early career.
This announcement follows Lee’s return to cinemas with the upcoming summer blockbuster Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, set to premiere in July. With The Assassins, he further cements his shift toward more diverse and mature film roles.
As pre-production ramps up, filming is expected to begin within the year, setting the stage for what may become another defining chapter in Lee Min-ho’s already illustrious career.
