Renowned Hong Kong (China) director and martial arts choreographer Tong Kai passed away on June 23 after falling from a tall building. Many of his colleagues were shocked upon hearing the news.

According to a preliminary police investigation, an 88-year-old man fell from the rooftop of a high-rise building and died instantly. The deceased was later identified as famous martial arts master and director Tong Kai.

His body has been sent for autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities initially concluded that the artist took his own life, with no signs of foul play.

Chinese media reported that Tong Kai did not leave a suicide note. The police are expected to issue an official statement after the autopsy is completed.

Before his death, Tong Kai was living with his wife and son in an apartment—the same location where the tragic incident occurred.

A friend of Tong Kai revealed that his wife, actress Suet Nei, had recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was undergoing treatment. The news reportedly turned Tong’s life upside down, and he became mentally distressed due to constant worry about his wife’s condition.

In his final days, Tong Kai was said to be actively caring for his wife. Deeply devoted to her, he was heartbroken watching her suffer every day.

One close friend recalled Tong once confiding in them that he feared his wife didn’t have much time left and could pass away at any moment. Tong expressed a heartfelt wish to care for her until the end—and to pass away together with her.

On June 23, the same day he died, Tong Kai reportedly wrote and sent his will to his lawyer.

The news of Tong Kai’s death has deeply saddened many in the entertainment industry. Actor Bosco Wong shared memories from his early days in showbiz, when Tong Kai personally mentored him.

Colleagues remember Tong Kai as a talented and professional director who deeply cared for the younger generation of artists.
